Why I created Unbreakable After 50
“It all goes by so fast.” That was a line I heard in the movie a long time ago, and I didn’t pay much heed to it, not because I didn’t believe it, but because I was so young. Right up until that moment when I wasn’t anymore.
I bowled through 50 years and celebrated the great day with my wife at Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia, photographing the sunrise. I was 50, and standing in the 50th country I had travelled to. It was also at a temple that had been right at the top of my bucket list for more than 32 years. The next 50 years were going to be epic, I told myself. Then it all changed.
I have no idea what happened, as I suspect most men don’t after half a century. I lost my spark, felt lethargic and lost interest in many of my passions. For a short while, I thought it was just lockdown, but I was still active and learning during that time. In hindsight, I realised that nothing had been added to my bucket list since then. I knew about the lowering of testosterone at this age, along with the “slower” recovery after a major gym session or late nights with friends down in the pub. I was fitter and stronger than most men my age, but that didn’t seem to matter.
It became obvious that I was muttering a lot about old age and all the over-the-hill cliches that society expects us to adhere to. I won’t bore you much more with this because I’ve written about it at length in other articles. So, what changed? Well, I simply stumbled across Tony Robbins again for one, then took an online course with him over a weekend. I cannot tell you how much I changed during those three days, but I felt twenty years younger. The greatest thing to emerge was that I wanted to help people in two areas that leveraged my knowledge. As a Midlife Resilience Coach, I wanted to help men over 50 who are going through what I went through, so I established the Unbreakable After 50 brand. The second business is The Resilient Path, which focuses on helping everyone and anyone who needs to build the resilience and adaptability to navigate a path through so many of the world’s problems that we see today.
Helping men over 50 change their future path.
If you’re over 50 and want to change your current mindset to a more future-focused one, I am here to help.
Maybe you’re struggling with a lack of purpose, or spending too much time reflecting on the past with regret or remorse. You’ve caught a reflection of yourself in a shop window and are shocked at how it’s all gone downhill. You’re starting to believe all the cliches about midlife, but don’t really want to settle down on the couch for the next 30 years just yet. Maybe you are happy to simply sit and watch television because you don’t know how to change course for yourself. Maybe your long-suffering partner is constantly telling you that you aren’t the man they had met all those years ago, and you don’t know how to get back to that man.
It’s natural to reflect on your own mortality as you look back on the many years behind you and the too few years ahead of you. What is there to be excited about? What is the point of it all? You’ve wasted so many years not doing what you wanted to do, and now it is all too late, or at least that is what you believe, because society expects that from you. What you need is a plan to help break away from all the negative thoughts and beliefs you are supposed to be feeling now. Society idolises youth, but you still have so much to contribute.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Dylan Thomas (1914-1953)
The main reason I want to help men over 50 is that I am now in this esteemed group and have actively changed my mindset, beliefs and goals through internal work and commitment. I want to help others do the same.
Who is my ideal client
Men over 50 who want to change. Men who are prepared to commit and invest (time and money) to do so for themselves. This is not some quick update to your internal software. It is about finding steps for you to follow to change your outlook for your future, and then going about making them happen.

What it is not
As a coach, I am there to help you find a new path for yourself and be a cheerleader for you along the various programmes I offer or communities I’ve created. I am not a therapist, and this is not therapy. If you need a deep analysis of any issues in your life, then no amount of coaching will help you because you need a therapist who is trained to dig deep.
These coaching sessions are also not just rant sessions, where people vent their anger about issues in their world. That’s what social media is best suited for.
