What is Unbreakable After 50?

It’s a five-step roadmap I’ve created to help men over 50 design a compelling future for themselves. I’ve created a programme that enables you to take control of your thinking, create a path from where you’re stuck to where you’re empowered, and regain control of your life. Unbreakable doesn’t imply that nothing will get you; it’s just about building a growth mindset that embraces obstacles as chances to grow

As a Midlife resilience coach, I focus on others like myself who have gone through the half-century milestone and find themselves suddenly wondering what comes next. Perhaps you have a well-established business that you built, or you’ve made a significant climb up the corporate ladder, but now you’re bored without drive or purpose. Perhaps you took early retirement as everyone said you should, only to end up sitting in the garden feeling a little lost.

There are many other reasons to feel like this after 50, mostly based on what society has led us to believe and adopt. I developed this programme because I went through something similar a few years back. I spent over two years going in mental circles as I tried to redefine my meaning and purpose. At that time, I was also out of shape compared to my usual fit self, and I felt no drive or ambition to do anything to change that. I became a low-energy person, content to let life happen to me. And I hated it. What I was looking for was a way to go through a process of reflection on my own, and come up with solutions that I could implement to gradually change from someone preoccupied with both the present and the past to someone more focused on the present and the future. I couldn’t find anyone who did it all in a way that made sense to me, so I continued researching and studying various sources, both people and books. I then spent a long time getting to know myself again and came up with the Five Steps, and all the content within them. This helped to create my version 2.0 for my life.

The Five Steps

The program begins by examining your current situation and then creating a forward-looking identity, before exploring your mental, emotional, and physical state. Then we analyse what limiting beliefs and patterns you’ve used to steer your life to this point, and put into place steps to reframe those into empowering truths. After that, we come up with some Horizon Goals for you that will propel you forward into your future, breaking them down into shorter-term goals to ensure you achieve them. Finally, we look at the world today and consider the role you can play in helping others become more resilient and adaptable to the challenges that confront us all.

Here are some more of the details we cover in each of the steps on the roadmap

Future-focused Identity

  • We honour your journey so far, drawing valuable lessons, passions and strengths without focusing on what could have been.
  • We identify aspects in your present life that make you excited
  • Like a GPS, we identify your current location before we come up with your destination so you can plot your journey.
  • We explore what is meaningful for you now and craft a vivid vision for your future.
  • Purpose is a challenge for many over 50, so we work on coming up with a new purpose for your future.

The Empowered State

  • An unbreakable future requires an empowered present, so we look at your physical, mental and emotional state.
  • We look at how simple physiological shifts can increase your drive and enthusiasm
  • We’ll explore your mindset. Specifically, we’ll examine how building a growth mindset can help you become the new version of yourself.
  • We look at strategies for developing mental and emotional resilience to help navigate the stress and setbacks that will occur on this journey
  • Taking control of your physical state is a vital step towards helping to transform your future self and how you age well. The old healthy body, healthy mind still applies.

Beliefs and Patterns

  • Shifting limiting beliefs and patterns from your old negative viewpoints
  • Beliefs are the silent architects of limitations for your growth
  • We identify limiting beliefs that you hold about men over 50 (personal and societal)
  • We identify and tackle recurring negative patterns that affect your ability to take control of your life.
  • Transform limiting beliefs and reframe them as empowering truths.
  • Change your inner narrative to be more future-focused

Midlife action plan and goals

  • Using your clear vision, empowered state and beliefs, we construct a roadmap to where you want to be in 5 or 10 years, or beyond.
  • This step is about translating your internal shifts into an actionable plan.
  • We set up your Horizon Goals and come up with actionable plans to achieve them
  • Learn how to build resilience into your plans for life’s little curveballs

Thriving in the Modern World

  • We look at your fears for the future and address those you can control
  • Learn to navigate the challenges of the modern world with critical thinking
  • We’ll explore external resilience around finances, strategy, and the trajectory of society
  • Establish ways you can give back to your community.
  • Finding your place of impact and influence in the years to come.

What does the roadmap hope to accomplish?

When I became a Midlife Resilience Coach, I had a simple wish to share a little of what I had experienced, but it also became about helping men who are struggling (like I was) to overcome the issues that are either self-inflicted or forced upon them by modern society. It also became about identifying where men typically get lost and how to navigate back to a sense of purpose, or to create a new one. We live in a world that is increasingly vilifying men of all ages and pushing them to the side because of past generational transgressions. This has contributed to a sense of loss regarding what it means to be a man and what our purpose is. The roadmap is about spending time analysing what your purpose and meaning will be for the next chapter of your life.
