Notes from my Laptop #11

"Marinovich Books"

Since we last chatted

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all, I hope you had a relaxing and food-filled time.

It has been a hectic time for the past few months with a few changes in my life compared to how it was in the earlier part of 2015. I have gone back to part-time writing as I do some more IT consulting work. This was done for two reasons, financial, and it changes up the scenery a little. I am currently on a project in the north of England (near Blackpool) and thus am back to hotel living for a few days a week.

I am still writing a shed load, which is great but just having to be a little more disciplined, and keep strange hours again.

I have also been lucky over the past few months to help Mrs. M on some of her destination wedding photography within Europe. I act as the driver, carrier of bags and handler of camera lenses in return for a few days away. To see some of my photos from the first trip to the Costa Brava in Spain, click here.

We also went on short trips to Italy and Croatia but more of that later once I have processed the photos.

Currently busy with another print run of Phoenix, so look out for some giveaways in the next few months. For a long time, I have been toying with releasing a digital boxset of the Kyle Gibbs series, but I might wait until the next novel is complete which should be by April.

Writing projects.

Book 3 in the Kyle Gibbs series– KHARON, has come back from my editor, and so it is a green light. One or two more reworks, and then I will be looking for beta-readers and advanced copy readers again. If you are interested in being a beta-reader, please let me know.

The first draft of ORANG, book 2 in the Hudson Drake series is done. More reworking before I submit to my editor.

Doing some research in India for book 3 in the Hudson Drake series that will deal with Tiger poaching and the bone trade.

What am I currently reading?

Taking a trip down memory lane again. I read this book over 30 years ago, and I love it. I am enjoying it even more this time around. Douglas Adams – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

What have I just finished?

Norm Clark’s The Saladin Strategy. Another DNF for me. Got to chapter 10, which is further than I usually go. It is light on description, which I could excuse if the action was gripping. It wasn’t. Needed an external editor to look at it.

Conservation

The annual dolphin hunting in Taiji, Japan, has kicked off (their quota is upwards of 1600 cetaceans again), so the protests and campaigning is in full flow again. I am hoping to attend another demo march the the Japanese embassy again in the next week or so.

Seaworld continues to get a kicking from protestors online and at their gates. The American population is waking up. Wall Street is also turning on them, and gleefully, SeaWorld’s stock plummeted last year. Much of the same this year,
